Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, restores a youthful, well-rested appearance to the eyes. It is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the United States today, because it provides such gratifying and dramatic results.

A blepharoplasty removes extra skin, fatty deposits and fine lines surrounding the eyes. Scarring is minimal and is easily concealed with in the crease of the eyelid.

What causes puffy or sagging eyes?

Simple factors like age, stress, and genetics can result in excessive puffiness, deep bags, dark circles, and wrinkles around the eyes.

Who is a good candidate for eyelid surgery?

Generally, eyelid surgery is most effective at dealing with issues of:

  • Excessive skin creating folds around the eyes
  • Loose upper eyelid skin that may impact vision
  • A puffy, tired appearance
  • Bags and bruised sockets

How is eyelid surgery performed?

Eyelid surgery may be composed of multiple individual procedures, depending on the patient and their goals. During consultation, you will be able to show Dr. Maddali exactly which areas you find bothersome.

Blepharoplasty surgery consists of delicate incisions on the upper or lower eyelid, or both, to remove minor amounts of tissue or fat, and provide tightening to the skin. Complications with blepharoplasty tend to be rare.

How long is recovery after eyelid surgery?

Recovery following eyelid surgery varies greatly among individuals. Because the area around the eyes is a sensitive location, patients can react very differently to the same procedure.

For most patients, during the first 48 hours following surgery, your eyelids will feel tight and may be swollen. Keeping your head elevated and using cold packs will help. Dr. Maddali will prescribe a pain medication to alleviate any pain or discomfort.

For some patients, vision may be blurry for a few days or longer, and the eyes may be sensitive to light. In as little as one week, you can be fully recovered and able to appreciate your new look.

Your eyes will appear more pronounced and expressive, and your facial expressions will appear more attentive and lively, with a younger and refreshed new look.
